Service price hike for Windhoek residents

The City of Windhoek has announced a 5% adjustment to water, sewer services, waste management and municipal tariffs and taxes, effective as of 1 October.
New charges are proposed for fire services within informal settlements (N$21.08) and disaster prevention assistance (N$901.88). Violations of property boundaries will also now incur fines of up to N$490 per square metres for significant violations, according to the government gazette.
Replacing a water meter now costs 112.9% more at N$1 534.10 compared to the N$720.74 fee that was applied in the 2023/2024 financial year.
