Rhino-Halliburton unveil tech centre
NEWS IN SHORT
The University of Namibia (Unam) inaugurated the Rhino-Halliburton Technology Centre at its southern campus in Keetmanshoop recently. The state-of-the-art facility marks an important milestone in advancing geoscience education and research capabilities, not only at the southern campus but across Namibia.
The technology centre has been outfitted with next-generation computing hardware from Rhino Resources along with a comprehensive three-year software package from Halliburton. This combined donation, valued at over N$130 million, will significantly enhance research and practical training in petroleum geology, engineering geology, geophysics and data analysis.
Unam vice chancellor Professor Kenneth Matengu underscored the importance of the centre in augmenting the university’s research capabilities. "The establishment of this facility confirms our promise to the nation that Unam is committed to providing students with the best possible scientific tools.”
Namibia deputy country manager of Rhino Resources Maria Mbudhi said: “Rhino is extremely proud of this initiative, which was birthed through a strategic industry partnership, for the benefit of the student community at Unam.”
Halliburton’s vice president for Africa South Antoine Berel stated: “This technology centre is a testament to our strong collaboration with Unam and Rhino Resources, as well as our shared vision to develop in-country technical capabilities.”
