Rains delay drought relief
NEWS IN SHORT
Kunene governor Marius Sheya has said efforts to distribute drought relief to needy communities in the region are facing delays due to ongoing heavy rainfall, which has led to gravel roads being cut off by fast-flowing rivers and flash floods.
Most of the challenges are related to road conditions and, at times, flowing rivers, he said, adding that this delays supplies being delivered to communities. "However, I can also say that we are making progress, as we are exploring various methods to deliver the food effectively and ensure it doesn't stay too long in storage."
In the meantime, the Kunene Regional Council has partnered with the Opuwo municipality to relocate and resettle more than 90 families whose homes were destroyed by a flash flood in the Orujanja area earlier this year.
