Kavetu, Keister withdraw from AR parliamentary list
NEWS IN SHORT
The Affirmative Repositioning (AR) movement has confirmed that Maitjituavi Kavetu and Ilse Keister, both elected as members of parliament in November, will not take up their seats in the National Assembly.
This follows a Namibian Sun report in January, which indicated that the pair were hesitant to resign from their current jobs due to the low parliamentary remuneration. Kavetu is a senior compliance and regulatory officer at MTC, while Keister holds a senior human resources position at the Social Security Commission.
Keister will remain a councillor for the City of Windhoek, while Kavetu will also join the city council, replacing AR leader Job Amupanda, who is taking up a parliamentary seat.
Musician Fredrick Shitana and activist Tuhafeni Kalola will replace Keister and Kavetu in parliament, AR confirmed yesterday.
