Hundreds gather for IPM conference
NEWS IN SHORT
The 14th edition of the Institute of People’s Management (IPM) Conference, under the theme 'Namibia Decides – Managing Hopes and Fears', brought together hundreds of human resource professionals in Windhoek from 18 to 19 November.
Sponsored by MTC, the conference sparked critical conversations about Namibia’s workforce and its future.
The event was officially opened by the finance minister Ipumbu Shiimi who emphasised the importance of attitude in recruitment. “Qualifications and skills matter, but attitude drives efficiency within a company or department,” Shiimi said, urging organisations to reconsider traditional interview-heavy recruitment processes.
Bank of Namibia's Margaret Akooko highlighted the need for diversity in recruitment, stressing that inclusive interview panels bring broader skills and competencies to organisations. Petroleum Commissioner Maggy Shino encouraged young Namibians to pursue expertise in emerging sectors like oil and gas, noting the success of Petrofund in training over 300 students in such industries.
