Nikanor Nangolo
The regional electricity distributor, Erongo RED, has partnered with the Environmental Investment Fund (EIF) to supply solar-powered electricity to 32 houses belonging to shack dwellers in Mondesa, Swakopmund. The initiative involves an investment of N$4 million. The process of electrification will be carried out as part of the 'Towards an Inclusive Design of the Renewable Energy Transition' (TIDRET) project.

This initiative is funded by the European Union in collaboration with the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development through the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Namibia. The project falls under the umbrella of the Climate Change and Inclusive Use of Natural Resources Project (CCIU-EU), which is implemented in partnership with Namibia's ministry of environment, forestry and tourism, as well as the EIF.
