Dr Andreas Elombo heads NUST's energy institute

The Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) has appointed Dr Andreas Elombo as director of the Namibia Energy Institute (NEI).

NEI focuses on addressing energy challenges through research, education and training in Namibia and the southern African region. Its key focus areas include renewable energy technologies, energy efficiency, policy, regulation and sustainable energy systems.

Elombo, an experienced engineering scientist, holds a PhD in engineering science from the University of Oxford and has over a decade of international experience in academia and industry. Prior to his appointment, he served as a research fellow at Heriot-Watt University in the UK, where he worked on decarbonisation projects for the transport sector. He has also held positions at NamPower and the University of Bristol.

Elombo emphasised the importance of harmonising Namibia’s energy resources to drive sustainable development, particularly in the green hydrogen sector.
