Alleged killer mom found fit for trial
NEWS IN SHORT
Former police officer Vapeni Boois (36), accused of killing her one-year-old son Amare in January 2023, has been found fit to stand trial.
She allegedly killed the son after finding out belatedly that the father's child was a married man. What infuriated her further, according to a recent Namibian Sun article, was that the wife of the baby's father forgave her husband for the infidelity.
Windhoek High Court judge Philanda Christiaan ruled yesterday that Boois, who has been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, can be held criminally responsible for her actions should she be found guilty.
However, her mental condition may be considered during sentencing if she is convicted. The case has been postponed to 20 May for the fixing of trial dates.
