Erongo police spokesperson Chief Inspector Ileni Shapumba confirmed that a case of assault has been opened against a parent who allegedly assaulted grade 2 learners at a primary school in Kuisebmond, Walvis Bay this morning. Shapumba said that they have ascertained that the woman's child was apparently being bullied at the school. The mother allegedly went to the school, bypassed the teacher, and demanded that her child show her who the bullies were, upon which she allegedly started beating these learners, Shapumba said. Shapumba condemned the actions of the parent. “This act is highly discouraged. Parents cannot bring their violence to school, as the school is supposed to be a peaceful and conducive environment. There are ways for these issues to be solved. Approach the teacher, HODs, or principal. Kids of these ages, between 8 and 9 years old, do not deserve to be exposed to such violence.” Shapumba said that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
