Located just outside of Dordabis, Sandwerf offers a profound experience of healing, reconnection and self-discovery in a serene environment.

Here, agriculture and tourism converge, with founders Leon and Annika Barnard’s transformative vision propelling it towards purposeful progress.

A renowned architect, Leon crafted the awe-inspiring complex - which includes a restaurant, gardens, conference facility, art gallery, chapel, stables, volunteer house and 21 chalets - alongside his wife Annika.

"Local communities are empowered through vocational training, gardens nourishing land and families, and ancestral weaving, whispering hope through contemporary art," the pair said.

Each initiative, from volunteer programmes to community collaborations, is a vibrant thread in this tapestry of progress.

At Sandwerf, Joseph’s Dream Appaloosa Horse Stud teaches human-nature connections. Annika emphasised its role in teaching humans to connect, learn and heal alongside these magnificent creatures.

Meanwhile, the Sandwerf Weaver's Cooperative is on the rise again, where you can see skilled hands weaving intricate tapestries using ancestral techniques and contemporary artistry.

The founders said Sandwerf is committed to fostering healing and empowerment, offering transformative three-week healing packages for various ailments.

“Through nature’s embrace, expert guidance and profound self-discovery, guests find renewal and rejuvenation.”

With a commitment to creating jobs, fostering career development and empowering the community, Sandwerf aligns with Leon and Annika’s dream to positively impact lives of locals.

“As we transition into a trust, our community engagement and initiatives continues to grow. Through collaborative projects, cultural exchange and shared learning experiences, every individual in Sandwerf’s community plays a crucial role in a transformation far beyond our physical boundaries,” Leon said.

Sandwerf hosts exclusive weddings, conferences, business retreats, art exhibitions and other functions.
