Swapo, bring back the money – NEFF

Party calls for ministers to be fired
Having just joined the Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters, fraud-accused Michael Amushelelo has his eyes set on Swapo's 'elites' and their 'Swiss bank accounts'.

Forex trader Michael Amushelelo, who joined the Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) yesterday, said they will go after ill-gotten gains stashed away in Swiss bank accounts belonging to Swapo elites in the coming months.

He joined the party with Gregory Cloete, his co-accused in a tax evasion and fraud case.

Amushelelo, who has for some time flirted with the Affirmative Repositioning (AR) movement before forming his own party People Organised Working for Economic Reality (Power), said he joined NEFF because AR is not a political party and his political ambitions with Power were cut short when he was charged with fraud and tax evasion and his assets were frozen.

“President Hage Geingob, I am advising you to resign. We already know you have been unconstitutionally elected. Do the constitutional thing to resign; the same goes for the ministers.

“The first thing we will do when we get into power, we will build two prisons, and they can go and take all the money they have taken to their Swiss accounts and pay it back or go to jail,” he said.

“We are also going to change the laws that say presidents cannot be prosecuted. We are going to prosecute, starting with Sam Nujoma, Hifikepunye Pohamba and Geingob. They have stolen from this country and this is how they protect themselves,” Amushelelo said.

He added that his biggest motivation for joining NEFF is fighting the economic agenda to make sure power is returned to the people.

Fire them!

His sentiments were echoed by NEFF president Epafras Mukwillongo, who said they are working on a motion which should be tabled by next week.

Meanwhile, the party’s vice president Longinus Kalimbo Iipumbu called for the removal of presidential economic advisor James Mnyupe, and said a native Namibian with knowledge and qualities should replace him.

“We want the minister without portfolio Leon Jooste to be fired immediately as he is busy selling our country, and the education minister Anna Nghipondoka should be fired for her incompetence and poor planning of the education system,” Iipumbu said.

NEFF also called for health minister Dr Kalumbi Shangula’s head, adding that he is “incompetent”. They demanded a replacement who has Namibian people’s interests at heart.

“Namibia’s economy is shrinking and this has caused the anger that needs to be revoked urgently before we experience shocks in our lifetime. The time is now to rescue the country from political elites. “Namibia is rich and its people deserve better. We have incompetent leaders who are administering the affairs of these state resources. We need to stand up together as a country and educate our people that the country is in a mess,” he said.
