LPM tears into PM

LPM say they are cleaning up Swapo's 'mess'

The Landless People's Movement (LPM) has accused Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila of failing to provide leadership by not holding officials accountable.

This after the prime minister said unnecessary quarrels among LPM members and councillors stagnate service delivery, with over N$500 million worth of projects currently incomplete.

Kuugongelwa-Amadhila said the Hardap, ||Karas and Erongo regions are "the worst" in this regard.

She was speaking at Keetmanshoop last week, the political base of LPM.

Responding to Kuugongelwa-Amadhila’s claims that LPM-led regions are not thriving on the development front, the party said it is remedying the "mess" caused by the ruling party since independence.

At a press conference at their headquarters this week, party leader Bernadus Swartbooi said LPM is a "child of yesterday" and has for the majority of its 23-month term been cleaning up after Swapo.

"You can't emphasise failure on LPM; we are pushing hard, cleaning up the Swapo mess everywhere we are governing..." he said.

‘We’ll embarrass you’

He further alluded to the prime minister’s absenteeism from parliament and accused her of missing consecutive sessions without consequence.

The party's deputy, Henny Seibeb, implored Kuugongelwa-Amadhila to "come to parliament so we can embarrass her."

"We will undress her and show her how it feels to be naked in front of the nation," he said.

The party further said Kuugongelwa-Amadhila should "feel ashamed" for the realities of her failures rather than blame them.

"Has she ever travelled to rural areas in the ||Karas Region? Has she ever called the Swapo council members to order in Karibib who have failed the town?

"She must answer the question why south of the red line and the Kavango regions are so underfunded by the state?"

Swartbooi added: "Saara is a rejected brand, no life can be breathed into her politics to rebirth her. No one listens to her..."
