I will be a leader for all - Khumub
Swapo wins Guinas comfortably
The councillor trounced his cousin who stood on the LPM ticket to become the new political leader of Guinas.
With less than 11 months before the regional government elections, newly-elected Guinas Constituency councillor Moses Khumub has pledged to be a leader for all inhabitants in his constituency and vowed to prioritize community engagements.
Representing the ruling party Swapo, Khumub was declared the winner of Friday's by-elections on Saturday. He received 1,407 votes, defeating Landless People’s Movement (LPM) candidate Fransiskus Khumub, who garnered 612 votes. The two men are cousins.
The by-election was necessitated by the death of former Guinas Constituency councillor Elias Martinus, who passed away on 21 October last year.
In an interview with Namibian Sun, Khumub stated that he is yet to familiarise himself with the pending work in the office to craft a plan for leading his community.
While acknowledging the challenges faced by people in his constituency, Khumub said he would take a bottom-up approach by engaging various communities.
“For now, I cannot say I will do this and do that. I am yet to go into the office and look at the work my predecessor was busy with. I am also guided by the Swapo manifesto,” he said.
“I will be a leader for all irrespective of what political home people might choose to have. I don’t know the faces of those who voted for me,” Khumub added.
