‘Body of Christ’ enters political fray
Body of Christ Party (BCP), the newest political party on the Namibian landscape, says it will restore the moral fabric of the country and, most importantly, bring the Bible back to schools.
BCP leader, Bishop Festus Thomas, told Namibian Sun yesterday that they have stood by long enough to see how the nation is suffering under the Swapo government, adding that they want to rally Christians who make up 95% of the country’s population, according to statistics.
It is also his view that Christians have been segregated because of an alleged deliberate onslaught by the country’s authorities who do not want Christianity to thrive.
“We want to be the voice of the Christians. The Christians have no voice and because of that, you see so many churches are being demolished and shut down. Churches also do not get land where they can put up their ministries. And with the Bible taken out of schools, we see that our Christian faith has been expelled.
“But we will bring together all the Christians in this country,” he said.
The party is expected to receive its certificate from the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) today.
Prayer and faith
Thomas, who is from the Saint Ministry for Christ church which has a nationwide presence, believes that BCP is the answer to the country’s unemployment and economic crises because they bring prayer and faith to the table.
“There are so many injustices in this country under the Swapo government. People have no jobs and we have serious economic challenges. We also have no medicines in the hospitals.
“We want to restore that because we believe in Christ, who has the power to change things,” he said.
The party is planning to have its nomination conference and subsequent central committee meeting in the coming weeks and will then begin its countrywide campaign for the 2024 general elections.
