Another political party to join the fray

News in short
Kenya Kambowe
With just over three months until the November elections, the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has announced that the United Namibians Party (UNP) has applied to be registered as a political party.

If approved, there will be 21 political parties contesting for the 106 National Assembly seats in the next parliament. UNP, which is a Rundu-based organisation, is led by Sakaria Amos Likuwa, who is referred to as the chief servant.

Members of the public and political parties have 30 days to object to the application, the electoral body said.

ECN recently deregistered two political parties - Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters and Christian Democratic Voice - from the political landscape due to failure to account for funds allocated to them.
