Woman dies trying to save teen daughter
A 31-year-old woman drowned alongside her teenage daughter in an earth dam on Sunday afternoon while attempting to rescue the 13-year-old girl from drowning.
The incident occurred at Onangubu village in the Endola district of the Ohangwena Region around 17:00 while the pair were washing clothes.
Ohangwena crime investigation coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Melanie Mbuuru, said the woman and her daughter had reportedly gone to an earth dam in a neighbouring village to carry out their domestic task.
“It is further alleged that the daughter went to fetch water from the earth dam and ended up drowning. In an effort to rescue her, the mother tried to pull her out of the water, but unfortunately, she also drowned,” the police confirmed.
Mbuuru said their bodies were retrieved by divers of the Special Reserve Force from Ohangwena and Oshana regions.
