Swakop Uranium aids police efforts, enhances community safety
The Swakop Uranium Foundation on Tuesday donated computers, printers and gazebos valued at close to N$140 000 to the Tutaleni Police Station in Walvis Bay as part of efforts to strengthen law enforcement in the Erongo Region.
The equipment will assist the Namibian Police in processing crime data, boosting response times and improving community engagement.
Namibian police inspector general Joseph Shikongo expressed his appreciation, emphasising the practical impact of the donation. “The donated items will meaningfully aid in our efforts to combat crime, particularly in the Erongo Region.”
“The provision of technological equipment will enable our officers to efficiently process and manage crime-related data, improving response times and overall effectiveness,” he added.
Shikongo stressed that government cannot shoulder the responsibility of fighting crime by itself.
"It is only through the support of agencies, corporate organisations, the business community, law-abiding citizens and the general public that we can effectively fulfil our mandate," he said.
Support communities
Swakop Uranium CEO Luo Wei reaffirmed the company’s commitment to community safety, saying: “Together, we are ensuring that the Erongo Region remains safe and secure for all its citizens.”
He added that supporting the police is a key step in uplifting communities, especially in protecting vulnerable groups such as women and children.
In addition, the foundation has pledged N$800 000 for the installation of light towers in the DRC community to further enhance safety and security.
