Sakaria blasts officers for leaking documents
News in short
Oshana police regional commander, Commissioner Naftal Lungameni Sakaria, has lambasted members of the Namibian Police for leaking confidential information.
Speaking during a promotion event at the regional headquarters yesterday, he warned officers that if they are caught leaking police documents to the media and members of the public, they “will be dealt with”.
“Imagine, not so long ago, we issued an internal memo. Before I know it, the memo is everywhere trending on social media. How do we leak internal information to the media?” he fumed.
“If we find out who is doing these things, you will find yourself in a problem.”
The leaked memo he was referring to was on members of the force removing vehicles’ licence discs as a form of punishment.
Sakaria said the practice must stop immediately.
“If motorists commit a traffic violation, the right procedures should be followed instead of resorting to illegal actions such as removing the licence disc,” he wrote.
Licence discs should only be removed when a vehicle is suspended, and the driver should be served with a suspension notice with clear directives, he explained.
