NamWater worker falls to his death from water tank

A man fell to his death from a NamWater tank in Otjiwarongo’s Orwetoveni location on Saturday. The man, identified as 59-year-old Matheus Utumune, was allegedly working on the water tower with a colleague.

According to police, his personal protective equipment (PPE) belt was loose and it is suspected to have caused his fall. His colleague was rescued from the tank and was taken to hospital for treatment for shock.

Meanwhile, at Epyenene village in the Oshana Region, a 23-year-old man died by suicide on Saturday. Wilbard Iipumbu was found hanging in his bedroom with a rope around his neck. No foul play is suspected, police said.

In another incident, a pensioner died by suicide on Saturday. The body of 70-year-old Kanyandelwa Iileka Timotheus was discovered hanging in one of the traditional huts at his homestead. No suicide note was found.
