Twenty-two-year-old Damian Haikera survived a crocodile attack at Kafuma village in the Kavango West region after he reportedly went to the river to bathe.

Chief Inspector Raimbert Muronga of the Kavango West police confirmed the incident that occurred at around 15:00.

"According to reports, while in the water, he was suddenly attacked by a crocodile. Haikera managed to escape the predator’s grip but sustained a broken right arm, as well as bruises on his right foot and left arm. A passerby rushed to his aid and rescued him from the river before he was taken to Nankudu State Hospital for medical attention. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to Rundu State Hospital for further treatment," Muronga said.

Muronga extended a word of caution, warning the public about the dangers posed by rising river levels.

“The community is warned to exercise caution and refrain from swimming in the river during this period of flooding. People are also advised not to go to the river alone. The water levels have risen and dangerous animals, including crocodiles and hippopotamuses, are prevalent. Additionally, snakes remain a serious threat,” he said.
