Man (27) escapes from hospital, commits suicide

The lifeless body of Nelson Nghilalulwa Hausiku (27) was found hanging from a tree in the bushes of Rundu’s Sauyemwa near the Kavango River yesterday afternoon, a month after he was reported missing.

The body, which had decomposed, was found with a wire around the deceased’s neck, who is believed to have committed suicide.

No suicide note was found on the scene.

The body was discovered by community members who alerted the police.

Hausiku, who is from Gcamande village in the Kavango West Region, was reported missing on 16 March after he left the Rundu State Hospital before getting his medication.

According to Kavango East Crime coordinator, deputy commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu, preliminary investigations have confirmed that the cause of death was suicide; however, a police inquest has been opened.

Hausiku’s next of kin have been informed and police investigations continue.

Another suicide

In other news, another suicide was recorded in Kavango East, where a pensioner allegedly took his own life in a hut.

According to the weekend crime report, the incident took place at Satotwa village last Thursday.

The victim has been identified at Makuti Johannes Mandandi (68).
