Baby abandoned in cemetery
A baby was discovered abandoned at Onelago cemetery in the Oshana Region’s Omagongati village on Wednesday.
The baby girl - who police estimate is about eight months old - was discovered by a passerby at around 23:00.
Head of the Oshana community policing sub-division, Chief Inspector Thomas Aiyambo, confirmed the discovery, and said the man was walking home when he heard the baby crying.
“The man picked the baby up and took her to the Onelago cuca shops in search of anybody who might recognise her, but unfortunately, she was not identified there,” he said.
Aiyambo urged anyone with information regarding the baby to contact the nearest police station.
The baby was found wearing a blue bodysuit, with a pink shirt underneath it, and a blue beanie. Aiyambo said the baby is doing well and is being housed at the Oshakati State Hospital’s gender-based violence (GBV) unit.
“For more information, the public can contact the GBV unit on 065 223 6056 or 065 223 6057,” Aiyambo said.
