Nikanor Nangolo
A 31-year-old man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly murdering his sister-in-law by burning her body and burying her remains in a shallow grave at Situveli village in the Kavango West Region. The regional commander, Commissioner Julia Sakuwa-Neo, confirmed the incident, which occurred at an unknown time. The deceased has been identified as Erna Kasiku Lufuti (51), and her next of kin have been informed. According to Sakuwa-Neo, the discovery of the shallow grave was made on 15 January after Lufuti's family members began searching for her. She had reportedly left home on 12 January to visit her sister. “It is suspected that the husband of the deceased’s sister returned home and found his sister-in-law there. While the exact details remain unclear, it is alleged that he burned the hut and the body before burying the remains in a shallow grave,” Sakuwa-Neo said. The commissioner added that prior to the incident, the suspect and his wife had reportedly gone to a shebeen, where they quarrelled. The wife decided not to return home with him. The suspect is believed to have returned alone and encountered the sister-in-law at their residence.
