Walk in honour of Nujoma
NEWS IN SHORT
Various organisations will join forces on Saturday to host a walk from Swakopmund to Walvis Bay in memory of the late founding president, Dr Sam Nujoma.
The Rejuvenation Youth Programme (RYP), the Association for Christian Students Los Donkies, and the Swakopmund Rhine Church’s support group for recovered drug users plan to gather at 06:00 in the morning at the Swakopmund Bridge for the walk.
"The walk aims to celebrate Dr Nujoma’s unwavering commitment to education and youth empowerment, in line with RYP’s mission to raise awareness about drug abuse and promote education for all," RYP said in a statement.
"Dr Nujoma’s legacy inspires young Namibians to pursue academic excellence and personal growth. Drug abuse is a significant contributor to school dropout rates among the youth," the organisation added.
Tinah Rajaal from the RYP said: "I don’t think we realise that addiction is a disease – that’s why it falls under the ministry of health."
