FlyNamibia celebrates first all-female crew
News in short
FlyNamibia yesterday celebrated its very first flight with an all-female crew. Captain Elsa Martin and co-pilot Lî Rossouw flew with Yolanda Gawases as flight attendant.
Martin is an experienced pilot and was named captain at FlyNamibia in October last year, becoming the airline’s first female captain.
"I don't think your gender or skin colour matters. If you have a passion for flying, nothing will stop you. But it would be nice to see more girls in the industry," Martin said in an interview with Namibia Media Holdings last year.
Meanwhile, outside her work as a pilot, Rossouw owns a swimwear business, Cheeky, with her friend and fellow pilot Belinda Hoebes.
Cheeky's exclusive, sustainable swimwear aims to make women of all shapes and sizes feel comfortable in their own skin.
Each piece is made from recycled plastic bottles, salvaged fishing nets and other ocean waste.
"It has always been important to us to be inclusive and to ensure that every woman can feel comfortable and beautiful," Rossouw said in an earlier interview.
