ERONGO REMEMBERS

ERONGO REMEMBERS: Members of the Namibia Defence Force (NDF) carrying the casket of late founding president Sam Nujoma at the Walvis Bay International Airport yesterday. The official memorial ceremony for the late liberation struggle icon took place at the Kuisebmond Stadium, attracting thousands of community members and learners, who either attended the ceremony or lined the streets as the military hearse carrying his remains passed through the town.

At the memorial ceremony, Erongo governor Neville Andre highlighted the special bond that Nujoma shared with Walvis Bay. "His early days in Walvis Bay, starting as a labourer but also meeting a diverse group of fishermen from across the globe, [allowed him to] cut his political teeth, because it is here in Walvis Bay that his dream for a free Namibia was ignited..." he said.
