Disgruntled Okahandja residents unhappy with municipal response

Aurelia Afrikaner
Members of the Okahandja Concern Group (OCG) gathered on Sunday to address a lack of progress regarding their demands for the upgrading of informal settlements.

Residents said the municipality's written response to their demands was unsatisfactory, fuelling frustration among the residents.

Anna Frederik, speaking on behalf of the OCG, criticised the municipality’s letter, saying: "This letter is of no use to us, as it does not answer the questions we posed."

The group initially planned to meet with the councillors during the first week of September, following an agreement with Marlayn Mbakera, the chairperson of the Otjozondjupa Regional Council.

However, the meeting never took place, residents said.

Frederik emphasised the urgency of receiving answers before the current council's term ends. “We want them to answer the question before they leave office, so the new councillors do not tell us it was the previous council’s mistake.”
