I remain a member of Swapo

ENGEL NAWATISEB
There is no doubt that I remain a fully certified Swapo member, despite previously considering a job that was offered to me by an opposition party.

I was never very angry, bitter or disappointed that my party leadership rejected me without explaining to me what wrongs I committed.

I have decided to issue this public statement in celebration of the departure of those who were hell-bent on isolating and sidelining me when I knocked on their doors asking for help.

They completely denied me access to State House. The cries of my family and me were completely ignored, and all my attempts for assistance were in vain – they know who they are.

Thank you, President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, for instilling new hope in the Swapo Party.

Yes, I have wronged the party in the past, but it was out of vulnerability, joblessness, and desperation to survive. The party and its leaders in the corridors of power were nowhere to be found when vulnerable Swapo members needed help. It is true – they discarded us like rubbish. Now, our president has replaced all of them. They are gone.

I have resurfaced; I am back in full force. Now that President Nandi-Ndaitwah has entered the political lexicon, I can sense an era of hope and optimism permeating the country at the start of her presidency. Her new administration and Cabinet certainly encapsulate this mood of euphoria.

Support

My support for Nandi-Ndaitwah's candidature dates back to 2017, when I was sent on a mission, man alone, to campaign for her slate in the Zambezi Region. Our Zambezi Region was the first to pronounce our support for the Geingob, Nandi-Ndaitwah, Shaningwa and Hausiku (Team Harambee) slate; the record speaks for itself.

Prior to the 2024 presidential and National Assembly elections, I was amongst the first crop of leaders to visit the Ndaitwah couple at their farm to pronounce my support for her candidature for president.

Bad decisions, poor timing and vulnerability once again lured me away from her camp, and I ended up riding on the back of a 'losing' horse, who offered me a few dollars in exchange for producing campaign material. Vakwetu, what bad luck.

Any suggestion that I did not support the president is devoid of any truth. I was simply a victim of poor decisions while in the right "paradise".

Before the new presidency

Anything before Nandi-Ndaitwah's administration was akin to a full-scale kleptocracy. The nation's mood almost verged on despair, with a palpable fear that Namibia was purposely being driven toward a failed-state territory by the self-interests of individuals.

What else can one conclude about what prompted our new President to bring in completely new faces into her Cabinet and drop long-serving party stalwarts?

Comrade president has done well to retain a few trusted comrades at all levels of governance including governors, and to give a chance to us, the newcomers with a proven track record of honesty, commitment and hard work.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah has acted with urgency to save our country from a state capture and we salute her for doing that!

God is for all of us!

Aluta continua!
