EDITORIAL: NFA takes one step forward, two back
Namibia’s domestic football is once more showing signs of regression due to leadership and administrative bottlenecks.
While the Namibia Football Association (NFA) leadership might hide behind poor funding as the cause of a delay to the start of the respective football leagues, we cannot ignore the fact that the lack of sufficient planning is bringing Namibian football into disrepute.
The search for sponsors at the very last minute speaks to the appalling efforts being made to remedy the situation.
Football has over the years been the mainstay sports code in the country, but its prevailing status has seen supporters and sponsors alike looking elsewhere to spend their time and money. One cannot blame them because it makes no sense to fuel a car with no engine.
The executive council of the NFA as well as the administrative staff who are responsible for the day-to-day running of football matters in the country must pull up their socks and prevent further embarrassment.
The current delay is a serious indictment on the leadership of the NFA. While we know it is not their intention to deliberately delay the start of the domestic leagues, they are ultimately accountable for football matters and should therefore work on speedily getting their house in order.
