The Brave Warriors duo of Sadney Urikhob and Pineas Jacob only face one obstacle in making their debut for South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) club AmaZulu: obtaining work permits.
The two players, who were signed from Civics and Tigers respectively, have yet to make an official appearance for the Durban-based club. with the team's officials yesterday telling Namibian Sun they have been frustrated by the South African Home Affairs' promises.
“They have been telling us to come the next day, every day for the last few weeks and that is frustrating,†AmaZulu general manager Peter O'Connor said.
But O'Connor remained optimistic that the duo will have their paperwork sorted out before AmaZulu's next fixture on August 27 when the team will take on Mpumalanga Black Aces in their first home PSL match.
“As soon as we get the work permits, then we can finalise the documentation of the two players and that seems very close,†O'Connor added.
According to him, the pair has settled in nicely at AmaZulu, especially since the club is also home to the duo's compatriot, Willem Mwedihanga.
“Willem already joined some six months ago and that has helped the boys to slot in nicely. The coach [Craig Rosslee] is happy with them and I'm sure they will add value to the team,†O'Connor said.
Meanwhile, it appears that Petrus Shitembi has been rested following his exploits in the Cosafa Cup; hence his non-appearance for University of Pretoria in competitive PSL matches this season.
“Shitembi got a bit of a break after taking part in the Cosafa Cup but he is still very much part of the coach's [Steve Barker] plans,†the team's media officer, Khatho Mbanda, said yesterday.
The Namibian, though, is likely to feature for the team when the team return's to action in the PSL on August 28 with a home fixture against SuperSport United at Tuks Stadium.
The same cannot be said of Ronald Ketjijere, who is also registered to play for the club, as he only returned to training this week.
“He will only join the rest of the squad in training in the next two weeks,†Mbanda added.
