Mwaka Zibiso is a safe custodian officer for the North and North East Division at NHE.

Mwaka Zibiso is a hardworking and focused young lady. She sets goals for herself and persists to achieve them. She says she inspires those around her and helps them better themselves. “I have an honours degree in records and archives management. Above all, I am a family woman with two beautiful kids and a husband,” she says.
Zibiso is the safe custodian officer for the North and North East Division at NHE and mainly has administrative duties. “I’m the heart of the organisation because I manage the information/data for both these regions,” she says.
She ensures the completeness of loan files and files records. She maintains and updates information in files, liaises with the deeds officers and the attorneys where required, keeps track of the movement of all files, does periodical stock-taking of files and answers queries from internal and external stakeholders.
Zibiso’s daily work includes mainly administrative duties. When asked what the biggest challenges and accomplishments in her career have been so far, she mentioned the lack of an integrated records management system. “It seems like most organisations are still stuck in the paper-based world and that can be challenging at times,” she said. “One of my accomplishments has been mentoring a co-worker.”
She finds inspiration in a variety of people and things. “I would have to say that the person who has most greatly inspired me has been my grandmother. She always had a smile on her face no matter how hard she worked, and she loved everyone,” she adds.
She advises other young people to never give up on their dreams as when the time is right, everything will fall into place. One thing she wishes she knew how to do is to read people’s minds.
When Careers asked about the best phase in her life, she said there are too many of them to pick one. “But if I had to choose one, it would be when I had both parents with me; those were the best days of my life,” she says.
If she had an opportunity to change anything in the world, she would without a doubt eliminate the Covid-19 pandemic.
