Kerii Architects & Designers [KAD] is an architectural firm based in Windhoek providing service for commercial, industrial, and institutional building designs and documentation. Kerii Architects & Designers was founded in 2018 by Javier Kerii, a registered architect.

The firm currently employs six people - a registered architect, senior technologists, two architectural technologists, and administrative officers.

Kerii says the main core culture at KAD is to work with “uni-employees”, which presumably come from various backgrounds.

“We believe that as a team we should be committed to the strong culture and values within an organisation, thus this has a great impact on their contribution towards overall projects and the firm outcome,” he says.

The team is clear on its goals and is incentivised through compensation structure and recognition. “Overall, as a team it is really important for management to be open about what is going well and what is going poorly with the business,” Kerii says.

The firm’s architectural services include a full scope of works which runs from the design process through to construction and completion. This process would include: site analysis - recommendations and studies; conceptual development, renders and sketches, drawings and sketches of room layouts, interior design and detail design drawings, appointing any necessary structural engineers, lighting specialists or building contractors. applications to council, council drawings and documentation, acting as the principal agent to manage and see the project through to completion and all administration and contract documentation.

When asked by Careers where the company is expected to be in the next three to five years, Kerii says over the years there will be room to introduce the following:

Integrated Project Delivery

KAD was never mistaken for the traditionalist, this is not about the style in the architects but they are committed to moving away from the traditional design-bid-build process into integrated project delivery.

Beyond architecture

In more and more projects, clients have been asking them to go beyond their core architectural services to provide them with many of the other elements that go into getting the project completed, such as interior design, furniture designer and landscaping.

They have company-sponsored activities at work such as workshops and seminars to improve the skills within the organisation.

“Two of us are currently enrolled in a project management course which will become a catalyst for growth within the organisation,” Kerii says.

Measuring success

When asked by Careers how KAD measures success, Kerri mentioned the staff. “The staff complement the metrics and the net received per employee has grown too, which the staff members now have grown from one which shows the staff contained six people,” he said.

The customer base has grown since KAD started using social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook as marketing tools. The business model has been maintained and project turnaround strategies are achieved in the time frame.

KAD gives back to the community by providing Christmas breakfast and lunch for the elderly residents of Ongongora in the Otjozondjupa Region.
