Who are these people?

Eight new regional governors were appointed on Tuesday, with former State House personal assistant Andre Neville among the surprise appointees as governor of the Erongo Region. Many of the new appointees are quite youthful, with observers saying they are being groomed to for even higher positions in the future. Six governors retained their positions. Here are the new governors.

Walde Ndevashiya

Region: Ohangwena

Bio: Long-serving CEO for the Eenhana town council. Member of the Namibia Institute of Public Administration and Management governing council. Holds a Masters of Public Administration in Local Economic Development degree.

Pijoo Nganate

Region: Omaheke

Bio: Outgoing special advisor to the governor and his predecessor Festus Ueitele. Stage actor and poet. Educator and former school principal at Witvlei Primary School.

Reverend Salomon April

Region: Hardap

Bio: National Heritage Council director. Pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Republic of Namibia (ELCRN).

Penda Ya Ndakolo

Region: Oshikoto

Bio: Omuthiya constituency councillor between 1993 and 2004. Governor of Oshikoto between 2004 and 2015. Defence minister between 2015 and 2020.

Bonifatius Wakudumo

Region: Kavango East

Bio: The 58-year-old hails from Utokota village in Kavango East. He is former regional councillor for Mashare Constituency, and former chairperson of the Kavango regional council. He served as Swapo Kavango East regional mobiliser for information and publicity.

Aletta Fredricks

Region: //Karas

The 38-year-old hails from Bethanie in //Karas. She worked for the Ministry of Health and Social Services as a health assistant. She served as a local authority councillor for the Bethanie village council and Swapo regional mobiliser for information and publicity in //Karas.
