A minor controversy has surfaced with this year’s Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) following duo Tswazis’ withdrawal from the song of the year category.
The NAMAs organisers recently revealed the list of nominees in various categories for this year’s award ceremony.
In the song of the year category, the trailblazing duo Tswazis was nominated for the song Pray, off the 2018 album Critical But Stable.
But Pray was nominated in 2019 in the gospel category, and lost to Lindsey’s Alles Op Die Altaar.
Doesn’t make sense
Speaking to tjil, Tswazis’ Eldazz shared that they did not enter the NAMAs this year.
He attributed the song’s nomination to how big it was on radio last year and the fact that the category is nominated by radio presenters.
“We withdrew from the category because the song was already nominated last year.
“We released our album, Critical But Stable, in November 2018, so it doesn’t make sense to still be nominated with a song from that album, a song that competed in a different category last year as well,” said Eldazz.
One million
In other news, King Tee Dee yesterday took to social media to celebrate hitting one million views on YouTube with his hit song The One I Love, which features Tanzania’s Diamond Platinumz.
“My people, we just reached one million views on YouTube. Thank you my lovely people for listening to it. Big up to Diamond Platinumz,” he wrote on Instagram.
The track is also nominated in the song of the year category.
