Brave Gladiators coach Woody Jacobs is predicting that his charges will beat Zambia in a two-legged Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (Awcon) qualifier match to book themselves a place at the tournament slated for Morocco on 22 July.
Jacobs said he believes the players have what it takes to reach the tournament.
Namibia will have to beat Zambia over two legs if they are to play at the tournament.
“These players have what it takes to take us to the African Cup of Nations and there is no doubt about that.
“I can see it in their eyes and can see it in the way that they are working hard and getting themselves in the best possible shape.”
Coach wary
But Jacobs acknowledges that they will have to be careful not to get complacent, given the quality of their opponents.
“I am aware of the strength that Zambia possesses and the fact that they have been around the block for a while.
“Everything in football has a cycle and I think this team I have is reaching that period in their careers where they want to go on to the next level,” Jacobs added.
The home-and-away matches will be played on 15 and 23 February.
One of the team’s senior players, Anna-Marie Shikusho, echoed her coach’s words, stating that they are full of confidence at the moment.
She added that the team is well prepared to face their opponents.
“I would say that we are well prepared and everything is going well as the girls continue to push.
“I think for us it will be a do-or-die game and we therefore have to go out with all guns blazing,” Shikusho said.
NFA secretary-general Franco Cosmos and public relations officer Cassius Moeti wished the team well ahead of their journey to Zambia for their away match and South Africa for the home fixture.
