Walvis needs clean-up

Walvis Bay Mayor Immanuel Wilfred says the standard of the town’s cleanliness has dropped considerably and called on residents to ensure a clean and healthy city for residents and a pleasant surprise those visiting the harbour town.
“We are hosting a number of events and cannot relax efforts especially with events such as Heroes Day coming up soon,” said Wilfred in his address at an ordinary council meeting on Tuesday.
It will be the first time that Walvis Bay hosts Heroes Day celebrations and planning is underway. The annual mayoral fundraising dinner, originally scheduled to take place at the end of August has been rescheduled in view of the celebrations heading for Walvis Bay.
The mayor further said recent visits by President Hage Geingob and Vice-President Nickey Iyambo have put the spotlight on Walvis Bay as Namibia’s premier driver of development and growth.
The vice-president opened the Logos Hope book fair and proceeded to launch the new Walvis Bay Salt Holdings expansion project. President Geingob presided over the opening of the NDF’s Naval Academy and commissioned the new passenger terminal at Walvis Bay International Airport last week.
Wilfred also encouraged community members to follow how and at what pace money allocated in the recently announced 2016/17 capital and operation budget, which contains a lot of input from residents, is going to be spent.
“Please familiarise yourself with especially the capital budget in order to see how it will benefit your suburb in general. My colleagues and municipal staff should also ensure that their tasks are completed on time so that problems are attended to and solved.”
