VW's Amarok V6 concept in pictures

IOL MOTORING Here's a more detailed set of pictures of the Amarok Power-Pickup, built by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles for the annual GTI enthusiasts' meeting on the shores of Lake Wörthersee in Austria. It's designed as a rolling workshop to carry spare parts, tools and equipment for a racing team, with widened wheel-arches to accommodate 22 alloys, suspesion lowered by 80mm, bi-xenon headlights with chrome surround and a chrome grille plus a larger lower air intake. At the rear there's also a carbon-fibre diffuser and dual exhausts, with dark-tinted tail lights and special red, white and black side decals. The cabin has specially-made dashboard and door trims, and Nubuck leather sports seats in a black, red and white colour theme. In-car entertainment is supplied via a custom sound system with a 200mm touchscreen and 500-watt subwoofer. The important bit But the big deal, of course, is what's under the bonnet - a three-litre V6 TDI turbodiesel rated at 200kW and 600Nm driving via an eight-speed automatic transmission and permanent 4Motion all-wheel drive. VW quotes a 0-100km/h sprint in less than eight seconds, but we think that the 600Nm would be more important when towing a trailer with a racing car on it. When we asked VWSA whether the three-litre TDI engine (which is standard issue in a number of VW Group models and thus available off the shelf) would be offered in the 'normal' Amarok in South Africa (something bakkie fans have been asking for since the day the Amarok was released) they neatly sidestepped the question by saying the Power-Pickup was a show car only and would not go into production.
