Volleyball Federation hosts coaching conference

The Namibia Volleyball Federation (NVF) is hosting a coaching conference in the capital for its coaches from six NVF regional structures around the country.
The conference started on Friday and ends on Monday at the Israel Patrick Iyambo Police College.
A group of 48 participants are attending the course which is aimed at sharpening their spiking, locking setting, defence, pass, reception and serving skills.
Darren Lewis, the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB level three) head coach of the Boswell School in England and Rachel Laybourne, a former British volleyball player who competed for Great Britain at the 2012 Summer Olympics, are conducting the conference.
The NVF’s director of coaching, Alex Musiwa, told Nampa on Friday the conference is the result of a partnership between the NVF and the England Volleyball Federation which was signed a year ago. He said they are looking forward to gaining as much knowledge as possible from the UK professionals.
“We are hosting a two-day coaching course for our senior coaches from the six regional structures and then on Monday we will be hosting a one-day coaching conference for teachers as this is the grassroots level where all our players originate from,” said Musiwa.
Lewis told Nampa the participants attending the conference are determined and have the will to drive Namibian volleyball to the next level.
“We came to Namibia to share our expertise and at the same time learn from the Namibians on how the game of volleyball is played here,” he stated.
The NVF currently has offices in Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi Region; Rundu (Kavango East); Oshakati (Oshana Region), Otjiwarongo (Otjozondjupa Region), Walvis Bay (Erongo Region) and Windhoek (Khomas Region).
