Uushwa, Oshekasheka win big at Metropolitan/Swabou Cup
Uushwa Combined School (CS) from Omusati and Oshekasheka CS from Oshana were on Saturday crowned the champions of the soccer and netball categories, respectively, at the 2019 Metropolitan/Swabou Summer Cup.
The inter-regional finals were held at the Valombola Vocational Training Centre on Friday and Saturday.
Uushwa handed Karibib Junior Secondary School (JSS) from Erongo a 2-1 defeat in the soccer final.
Oshekasheka defeated Atlantic JSS from Erongo 33-32 in the netball final.
As the champions, the two school teams each scooped N$15 000, floating trophies and gold medals.
The boys from Nyangana CS in the Kavango East Region came third in the soccer tournament, after defeating PI Groenewald JSS from Hardap 3-1 in the third/fourth playoff.
Karibib received N$9 000 and silver medals, while Nyangana took home N$6 000 and bronze medals for finishing second and third, respectively, in the soccer tourney. PI Groenewald JSS received N$4 000 for their efforts.
Atlantic, as the runners-up in the netball contest, took home N$9 000 and silver medals, while the girls from John Shekudja CS in Omusati finished third and received N$6 000 and bronze medals.Onanghulo CS from Ohangwena took home N$4 000 for finishing fourth.
Oshekasheka reached the netball final after defeating John Shekudja 24-22 in their semi-final, while Atlantic beat Onanghulo 26-25 in the other semi-final.
Metropolitan/Swabou committed N$450 000 towards the prizes and hosting of the annual tournament this year.
