Former sports journalist and NBC presenter Rodman Katjaimo says the first Katutura Central 10km walk and run challenge was a success.
“I am proud and grateful for all those who turned up to support this initiative.
“This is merely to promote health among our citizens by showing them that exercise keeps them away from the doctors.
“It also reduces pressure on our overwhelmed healthcare facilities that are packed with people with diseases linked to a lack of exercise,” he said.
Katjaimo lauded the sponsors who came on board to make the event a success.
“I would like to thank Namcol, FNB and Bank Windhoek for pledging N$10 000 each and the other individuals who contributed something towards it.
“It was very important that these sponsors came on board to bring life into a new event that I wish to make an annual one.”
‘Wonderful’
Participants ran and/or walked from Genesis Fitness Gym in Soweto across all Katutura Central boundaries on a 10km route. This was an event with no age restrictions, allowing both young and old to take part.
Soweto resident Milner Vries said he enjoyed the walk and run, which he said was beneficial.
“This was a wonderful experience for me and I want to thank the organisers of the event for making it possible.
“It is true that we need to exercise more in order to stay healthy and well,” he said.
