The Tsumeb town council re-elected its office-bearers last week.
Matheus Hangula of the Swapo Party was re-elected as mayor, deputised by Anmire Garises of the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM).
The management committee consists of Frans Kamati (chairperson), Hilde Pashe and Olga Gases. The ordinary council members are Abraham Baseko and Absalom Uukule.
In his acceptance speech, Hangula said: “We have a huge responsibility and that is to develop and uplift the living standard of the residents and the community at large.”
Hangula said he was concerned about a few issues that the council still needed to review, such as speedy decision-making at the administrative and political levels.
Hangula urged the councillors to focus on projects that are feasible within the shortest time.
“We cannot continue to waste time and energy on things that will not happen, hence let us focus on those that are tangible and those that are within our means,” he said.
Otavi
The Otavi council re-elected Isaac !Hoaeb as mayor and Frieda Mvula as deputy mayor. Both represent the Swapo Party.
The management committee is Erisia Negumbo (chairperson), Naftali Duasab and Timoteus Shipandeni.
!Hoaeb said he will lead the town with diligence, transparency, integrity and honesty.
He also assured the councillors that he remained committed to improving the quality of life of Otavi residents.
“Your responsibilities are an essential element of our system of democratic local governance because it provides a continuous link between the council, the electorate and the ordinary citizens of Otavi,” he said.
!Hoaeb urged the council and residents to intensify their efforts towards creating a sustainable environment.
