Team Namibia off to African Games
Namibia is sending a team of 81 athletes, who will compete in various sport codes at the 12th African Games, previously known as the All-Africa Games, in Rabat and Casablanca in Morocco from 19 to 31 August.
The games will be hosted by Morocco for the very first time and 53 countries are set to participate.
The Namibian team will compete in 13 sport codes, namely athletics, archery, chess, cycling (road race), mountain bike racing, fencing, shooting, karate, swimming, tennis, beach volleyball and wrestling. The athletes will be accompanied by officials.
The athletics participants are Ernst Narib, Sydney Kamuaruuma, Thomas Reinhold, Roger Haitengi, Helalia Johannes, Lavinia Haitope, Uveni-Nawa Kuugongelwa, Chenault Coetzee, Mahmad Bock, Jeremia Shaliaxwe, Beatrice Masingili, Tjipekapora Herunga, Beata Naigambo, Jolene Jacobs, Jesse Urikhob, Even Tjiviju, Thasiso Aochamub, Ivan Geldenhuys, Globine Mayova, Rondegudus Gustaf, Gilbert Hainuca, Dandago Gurirab, Wenceslaus Klaasman, Kennethe Tites, Daniel Ngipandulwa, Sandro Diergaardt, Ryan Williams, Natalie Louw, Ane Rautenbach, Salmi Ndiviteko, Hendrik Botha, Tobias Hiskia, Bethold Karumendu and Joseph Obermuller.
Frank and Quinn Redding and Adriaan Grobler will compete in archery, while Charles Eichab, Dante Beukes, Israel Shilongo, Lishen Mentile, Nicola Tjaronda and Otto Nakapunda are the chess players.
The cyclists are Drikus Coetzee, Xavier Papo, Martin Freyer, Denzil de Koe, Andre de Klerk, Alex Miller, Michelle Vorster, Hans du Toit, Johannes Shikwena, Aiden and Tristan de Lange and Vera Adrien.
The fencers are Jens Pinsenschaum and Johan Pieterse, while Johan Venter, Hendrik Roos and Ian Kriel will compete in the shooting competition.
Michelle Tjimuku, Lily Mwiya, Suzelle Pronk, Michael Nakapandi, Stefan van der Merwe, Bryan Nakaponde, Marchelle de Jager and Llewellyn van Wyk will compete in the karate competition.
The swimmers are Kiah Borg and Alexander Skinner, while Daniel Louw is the swimming official.
Linique Theron, Lesedi Jacobs, Taimi Nashiku, Megan Lombard, Jean Erasmus and Deon van Wyk are the tennis players, while Martha Shigwedha is the tennis official.
For beach volleyball, James Verrinder is the official, while Kim Seebach and Kristin Schulz will compete.
The wrestlers are Luis Forcelledo, Ikolela Ekandjo, Romeo Goliath and Kevin Vleermuis.
