Team Namibia arrived in Gaborone, Botswana on Tuesday evening ahead of their participation in the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region Five Under-20 Games, which kick off tomorrow and end on 16 December.

The 152-member team departed from Namibia on Monday and will compete in football (men and women), track and field, boxing, netball, swimming, basketball, judo, volleyball (men and women) and tennis.

The team also consists of Paralympic athletes.

Team Namibia chef de mission Anton Langerman said yesterday that despite some hiccups at the border, everything is going according to plan.

“I'm happy the team arrived safely for the games. Our goal at these games is to improve on our previous position in Angola two years ago,” said Langerman, referring to the team's sixth-placed finish after winning five gold, 19 silver and 16 bronze medals. He added that despite the glitches, the athletes were in high spirits when they arrived at the University of Botswana, where they will be accommodated for the next two weeks. The athletes resumed training yesterday afternoon. The Angolan, Zambian and Malawian teams also arrived on Tuesday.
