Swapo’s Kapere breakfasts with EFF’s Moonsamy

Swapo youth politician Mandela Kapere has explained that a breakfast meeting he had with visiting Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Magdalene Moonsamy was a reunion of old friends. Moonsamy, from South Africa, was part of a delegation of EFF parliamentarians who came to Namibia to witness the manifesto launch of the Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF). The EFF is headed by Julius Malema. Swapo has termed the NEFF “clowns” and called its manifesto launch a “non-meeting”. There have also been claims that the Namibian ruling party was behind the EFF delegation being detained at Hosea Kutako International Airport upon their arrival in the country this past Friday. They were also denied entry to the Heroes’ Acre. During the NEFF manifesto launch, and later in an interview with Namibian Sun, the EFF politicians bashed Swapo, saying it had betrayed poor Namibians. Kapere met Moonsamy on this past Sunday morning at a local hotel, where they chatted. Kapere subsequently tweeted yesterday saying: “Had a wonderful breakfast meeting with my long-time friend and comrade… Moonsamy, analysing international and regional politics.” Namibian Sun contacted Kapere yesterday, given the tension which exists between Swapo and the NEFF, and by implication the EFF. Swapo and South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) share closes ties, while the EFF has been a thorn in its side in the neighbouring country’s parliament. “Moonsamy and I are friends from her days in the ANC Youth League. We have worked together since that time and we became friends,” Kapere explained. “I went there to say ‘hi’ to her for 30 minutes and there was nothing else to it. I do not even know the other people she was with. I only know her and I went to say ‘hi’ to her,” he added. WINDHOEK ELVIS MURARANGANDA
