Suspended nurse reinstated at Oshakati
OSHAKATI MERJA IILEKA
One of the five staff members, suspended from the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital in the aftermath of the death of a baby during an unassisted birth, has been reinstated.
The four other staff members are expected to hear their fate soon, following their suspension on April 4.
The reinstated staff member is a nurse.
Acting Medical Superintendent of the Oshakati Hospital, Dr Josephine Augustinus, yesterday told Namibia Sun that the other suspended staff members will what is to happen to them soon.
Augustinus, however, refused to reveal the names of those still on suspension and the nurse who is now back at work.
I cannot provide names, because when we announced the investigations we never revealed the names, said Augustinus.
The staff members still on suspension, who including one nurse and three support services staff members, have been kept in the dark despite the Public Service Act stating that suspended staff need to be charged or reinstated within 14 days after their suspension.
They were asked to clear their desks so that investigations could take place unhindered into the death of Adelheid Jacob's baby on Easter Sunday.
An independent investigation into the incident found that no electricity at the hospital was the chief culprit and triggered a sequence of events that contributed to the death of the baby.
The findings of the probe did, however, note that the 28-year-old Jacob delivered her baby alone on the floor of the maternity ward, which was attributed to overcrowding and understaffing.
