Star Teacher- Hendrik Dingi, KhomasTura High School
1. When did your journey start as a teacher?
I had a dream of becoming a teacher long ago when I was doing grade 11 in 2007 but my dreams only came to reality in 2018.
2. Was teaching always something you wanted to do?
Yes, teaching has been always something that I wanted to do. I am passionate about teaching; I enjoy the feeling of opening up a child's mind.
3. What is the most challenging thing as a teacher?
Teaching a stubborn learner who doesn't like to listen to anything from a teacher.
4. What would you have done if you had not become a teacher?
A life coach, anything that involves mentoring and guiding someone else’s life.
5. What keeps you motivated and inspired to keep on teaching?
My life background, I started as a security guard although my initial dream was to become a teacher. My life has taught me that I can become whoever I want to be, as long as I have the courage and patience.
6. What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Playing FIFA game or reading. Playing the game expands my brain to think more critically while reading equips me with more new knowledge every day.
7. What is the greatest thing you have ever achieved?
One was winning a gospel music award in 2016 and the second was becoming SRC president in 2021 for all IUM campuses.
8. Do you have any motivation for prospective teachers?
I just want to encourage my fellow teachers that teaching is the backbone of education and education is the mother of all professions; it’s the beginning of every bright light in every child's life, so that means we are the most needed people for this country as every Namibian is looking up to us as an eye-opener to the Namibian child. We feed this nation by producing future doctors, nurses, engineers, pilots, teachers and so forth, so let’s keep up the good job.
