St Boniface College principal Rosline Sebastian has confirmed that the school is investigating claims into a male teacher who allegedly touches female learners inappropriately and makes them uncomfortable with inappropriate hugs and compliments.
Sebastian, who refused to shed further light on the matter, said she can only respond to the media once the investigation is complete.
“I cannot give you a reply as the investigation is ongoing and only then [when it has been completed] can I share the report with you,” she said briefly.
The claims came to light after a learner spoke out on the alleged sexual harassment.
Namibian Sun has seen screenshots of messages and heard voice notes made by learners speaking out about the teacher’s actions.
The victim allegedly experienced a panic attack in the teacher’s classroom during a lesson.
Opening up to her friends, she said the teacher touched her thighs.
‘He harassed me’
“Personally, he harassed me last term. He came and touched my thigh inappropriately and he hugged some learners and called them beautiful or text them when they are home apparently to check up on them,” the victim said.
In one of the voice notes, the victim said another learner encouraged others to speak out, however, this was allegedly met with disapproval from the principal who called in the learner’s mother.
During this meeting, the learner was accused of “needing prayer” before being hit by her parent.
Another victim was apparently warned by her father to stay away from the teacher in question, who is believed to have a reputation of being “too touchy” with learners at another school.
The learners are calling on the school’s management to treat the matter with urgency as they are "living in fear".
