SKW dominates third round of Fistball league

Staff Reporter
The third round of matches in the Bank Windhoek National Fistball League, held at the DTS fields, reached a high point on 17 June.

SKW1 moved past the table leaders CFC1, in the National A League, with four points clear at the top. In the National B League, SKW2 won all their games and has a comfortable 11 points lead over second team, DTS.

The defending champions, CFC1, defeated CFC2 with an easy score line of 3 - 0 in the first game of the day. In the second match of the day, SKW1 had to battle it out against CFC1. The first set went to CFC1. In the second set the green-and-whites had a better start into the game and improved their tactical approach. This change of tactics turned the game around in favour of the Green-Whites.

In the third set, SKW1 took advantage of a weakened CFC1 defence, to win the set resoundingly. In the next encounter SKW1 faced bottom of the table CFC2. The outcome was expected, as the record champions, SKW1, was focused on winning and took all three sets during the encounter.

CFC1 and CFC2 played against each other in the second encounter between the two counterparts. CFC2 lost 30 against their club colleagues. The pressure is on CFC2 to register a point, as they still have not registered a single point on the table.

In the second game against SKW1, CFC1 changed their game to generate more pressure from the serve. However, with a poor build-up play by the Blue-Whites, SKW1 could not be beaten. SKW1 played solid three sets and won with a score line of 3:0. In the second match against CFC 2, SKW1 once again dominated the match. As a result they now lead four points clear at the top of the table, while CFC1 is in the second spot.

With the number of points on the table, SKW1 and CFC1 have already qualified for the playoffs scheduled for September. CFC2, on the other hand, can only get a maximum of 18 points in the remaining six fixtures.

In the National B League, the dominant SKW2 defended their top position as they walked away with maximum points to stay 11 points clear at the top. Their closest rivals, SFC1, did not pose a danger to them.

Another drawback for SFC1 was because their main attacker, Knolle Kolb, was not available. This resulted in the team not having powerful attacks during their games. SFC1 lost 4 - 0 against DTS.

CFC3 went on to win the club's internal duel against their counterpart CFC4. As it stands, DTS is now in second place, sharing points with SFC, but with a better ball ratio. SKW2 has already qualified for the play off finals due to their points.

Konrad Swart from DTS took the player of the day award. The next games will take place on 1 July, at the Cohen Fistball Club.
