Silent auction for CHAIN
A replica of Vincent van Gogh's 'Starry Night' that was painted by Swakopmund artist Jean Pierre Theron is being sold in a silent auction that closes on 31 December.
No minimum bid has been set and the proceeds of the auction will go to CHAIN, a local welfare organisation for children with handicaps.
Theron braved the icy water earlier this year when he painted the replica underwater at the National Marine Aquarium in Swakopmund. Although he experienced a few problems with his canvas and oil paints, he managed to almost complete the artwork within a few hours. He then spent about half an hour out of the water putting on the finishing touches.
The Art Stop Gallery sponsored Theron's paints and the canvas.
A short film of Theron painting underwater at the aquarium has also been completed and will be used as a promotional video to generate interest in the artwork.
