A genre with a devoted community of fans, Namibian gospel is producing more and more world-class content, like award-winning Manda Gabriel, who recently released a live recording DVD. This is an exciting move in the music arena, because DVDs are scarce in the Namibian market. Recorded last year, Gabriel took some time to re-analyse the music sphere and put her career into a broader perspective before strategically making this body of work available. The response has been very positive and the demand is snowballing.

“I have been busy promoting it at various gospel events and church service gatherings by invitation,” she said.

Heavy-hitter

Having been around the music scene since 2006, Gabriel has reached some notable career achievements, including putting out multiple albums, scooping the best artist of the year award at the Mpumakoloni International Gospel Music Awards in South Africa as well as winning the best female gospel award at the Namibia Gospel Music Association Awards in 2018.

The songstress said that while the launch of her latest project has been called off due to the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus, those keen to own the DVD can order it.

“The Heal Our Land DVD is a plea for God's divine intervention in our fallen, broken and contaminated world,” said Gabriel. Only physical copies have been made available so far, but her team is making provision to release the project on digital platforms within the next few weeks.

Collaborative effort

On the Heal Our Land DVD, Gabriel features renowned South African gospel artists like Dumi Mkokstad and Zaza Mokhethi.

“This DVD offers spiritual uplifting revival to the prodigals and, most importantly, as a nation, it serves as a reminder to have faith in God in these trying times.

“It is a multilingual piece, because like Nelson Mandela said, if you talk to a man in a language he understands, it goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, you talk to his heart,” she paraphrased the iconic leader.

The project is available for N$200 countrywide. Call 081 261 3199 to order.
